Alison HayesRecording vistas through photography, my works begin life as personal documentaries.
The images I collect form a framework within which I am able to weave my impression of a scene. I achieve this interlacing of image and memory through explorations into the physical qualities of paint. I am specifically interested in the harmony that is created by the combination of dark and light spaces, as well as the manipulation of perspective. The large canvases investigate how the use of minimal paint, as with watercolor, can still create undulating form and structure.
The works you view aren't intended to depict any recognisable location; they are to be enjoyed as delicate observations, moments captured, quiet and ephemeral.
