Ally Morton

My paintings explore a satirical world inhabited by animals and fantastical creatures staged in dark, chimerical landscapes like Goya's Black Paintings, Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights and the work of Odilon Redon.

I am inspired by the imaginary and spontaneous nature of painting, and how symbolism has changed over time to take on a new life in a contemporary context. I take influence from magic realism, mythology, the grotesque, the macabre, fables, fairytales, folklore, film, news clippings, video games, lyrics and internet images.

I am facinated with painting as a medium and feel that despite its long histroy, it still has an important place in contemporary art. It is not a 'dead language'
