Siān Bowen

After studying Fine Art at Newcastle University and Edinburgh College of Art, Siān Bowen was awarded a Monbusho Scholarship to Kyoto University of Arts, Japan.

She lived in Japan from 1985-9, moving to Northumberland in 1990. Since then she has exhibited nationally and internationally in Italy, Germany, India, Japan, Slovakia and Denmark. In 2001 she was prizewinner at the Jerwood Drawing Prize and since then has been included in a number of surveys of contemporary British drawing. From 2005-6 she was Resident Artist in Drawing at the Victoria and Albert Museum with an exhibition of her works staged by the V&A in 2007. Her works are held in private and public collections including the British Museum and the V&A. For the next two years she will be hosted by the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam where she will be working with conservators and curators to produce a new body of drawings. She is a Senior Lecturer in fine Art at Northumbria University.
