James Hugonin

James Hugonin was born in 1950 in County Durham. He studied at Winchester School of Art 1970-1971, at West Surrey College of Art and Design 1971-1974 and Chelsea School of Art 1974-1975. In 1998/2001 he was Associate Research Fellow at Northumbria University, becoming Associate Research Professor in 2001. He lives and works in Northumberland with artist Sarah Bray.

His work has appeared in many group exhibitions in Britain and Europe and he has had a number of solo exhibitions in Britain including the Serpentine Gallery, London in 1991, Kettle's Yard, Cambridge and Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal, 1996. A major exhibition 'And our eyes scan Time' with the artist Ian Stephenson was at Baltic, Gateshead and the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, in 2006. In 1999 he was nominated for the Jerwoord Painting Prize. His works are included in many private and public collections in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, USA, Australia and in Britain, including the Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council of England.
