Dick Ward

Dick Ward was born in London in 1937. After foundation studies at Regent Street Polytechnic he went on to take a B.A. and M.A. at Chelsea School of Art in 1963-1967.

From 1967-1977 he taught part-time in colleges of art in Luton, Bradford, Epsom and Leeds. In 1977 he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Sunderland Polytechnic (now the University of Sunderland) where he continued to work until his retirement in 2002. He has exhibited very widely in solo and group exhibitions in the United Kingdom and abroad, notably in Scandinavia, Latvia and Russia. Besides the Queen Elizabeth Hospital mural (1989), he has also undertaken mural commissions for Prudhoe Library (1985, 1986), Wansbeck Hospital (1990-1994) and the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle (1997, 1998).

His publications include: Visual Anecdotes. Works on paper by Dick Ward. University of Sunderland, 1999, in collaboration with Moscow municipal ?L-gallery? and the Kostroma city museum of Fine Art.
