We Are Just The Same As Anyone Else contemplates a fashion future that promotes a broader range of body and beauty ideals by truly celebrating individuality.
This Northumbria Design exhibition features journalism, photography, styling and magazine design by students of the BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Fashion Marketing programmes.
The work is inspired by the national competition Diversity NOW! from the award winning team at All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, founded by Erin O'Connor, Caryn Franklin and Debra Bourne and run in association with iD magazine.
The work in this exhibition is about difference, not the uniform or the norm, the expected or conventional. Students have explored the brief from a personal perspective, considering issues such as mental health, disability, perception of the self and others, notions of beauty and equality, resulting in a body of work that exhibits a startling freshness and clarity.
