Postgraduate Showcase 2011 presents the work of students from our MA Fine Art and MA Fine Art and Education programmes.
Postgraduate study and research at Northumbria has a distinct character that reflects the range of backgrounds of art students who have often pursued professional careers before returning to Northumbria University, to explore the practical and contextual dimensions of master's and doctoral level fine art.
The master's students on display will have worked to produce an exhibition that, year after year, impresses audiences with the variety of practices on display and the diversity of interests represented by exhibitors.
The exhibition is presented in Gallery North and studios in Squires Building and includes videos, drawings, paintings, installations and performance work.
Gallery North is an exciting space for artists events, symposia and workshops. The exhibition programme is reviewed regularly and the gallery encourages alumni the opportunity to curate and exhibit alongside other major artists. We support our students after they leave because they carry our reputation with them and this showcase is a culmination of the work produced by students returning to Northumbria for postgradaute study both directly from undergraduate or after a break in education.
