Harriet Plewis and Nicola Singh
they go into a room and they play a little drum is a performed exchange between Harriet Plewis and Nicola Singh in the context of the exhibition Monica Ross: A Critical Fine Art Practice at Gallery North. This dialogic piece brings together outtakes from recent conversations between the two artists. These spoken snippets reflect on the female voice; sung, spoken and as it is articulated in art.
Harriet and Nicola will demonstrate some of this thinking in and around the female voice through the use of song and in restaging sections of their conversation. This restaging is conscious of the relative impossibility of flipping the private to public but holds out a desire to attempt the switch.
The tête-à-tête has been set to a choreography that references the intimacy of conversation, a kind of close listening, whilst also acknowledging that we sometimes miss each other in this exchange.
A ‘redux’ version of this performance will be performed on Thursday 23rd March at 6.30pm at BALTIC 39.
